Model Construction

The purpose of the information provided at the links below is to provide some insight into what features and details we feel are important in the construction of our models. While comparisons can certainly be made to the work of others, we will for the most part leave that to others to do.

Once the research and development for a project is complete and a thorough understanding of the subject prototype has been achieved, a further determination of equal importance must be made; what detail and features resulting from the research should and can be incorporated into the final production models. Recognizing when compromise is unavoidable and how to make those decisions is probably the most serious of all abilities in producing anything of quality and that is certainly the case with brass O scale models. Every model, regardless of scale, is a collection of compromises and it's the ability to deal with those compromises that will determine the degree of success or failure of any project.

The philosophy of those involved with Kohs & Company in the design of our models is an adherence to scale dimensioning and proportions as well as great overall performance with a scale speed range and reliable operation. Put simply, if it's worth doing it's worth doing right. While I certainly understand the attitude that if it looks good running from ten feet away that's good enough, our models are meant to instill a pride of ownership that comes from an appreciation of the time and effort that goes into a maximum effort to try and get it 'right'.
