Truck Assembly Project Update

4/22/13 - I've had a lot of conversations lately regarding our plans for separate truck offerings, many of which were urging some specific offerings. I am definitely taking all the suggestions into consideration and will advise accordingly. More soon.

1/12/13 - The details regarding the separate truck offering are close to being resolved. If you are interested in our truck projects, please pay close attention so that you do not miss out on the initial offering. General announcements will continue on this page, but offering information for specific trucks will be done on the dedicated pages for each truck. The emphasis will be on making the offering and sale process as streamlined as possible to minimize the administrative costs, the profit margins will be very close so that the truck prices will be as reasonable as possible. As I have previously indicated, these truck projects are meant more as a service to modelers that have beautiful models sitting in boxes because there are no appropriate trucks available than they are for making a profit. The trucks must be self-supporting projects in their own right to be viable beyond the first offering.

1/08/13 - After a long and unanticipated delay in our plans to produce separately available freight trucks due to the actions of our former freight car builder, we are again headed in the right direction and making progress. Economy of effort in promoting, selling and delivering these trucks will be key to keeping them affordable and practical to offer. The cost factor of producing a state-of-the-art O scale truck is such that there is not much profit margin when keeping the selling price at a point deemed practical.

Although the concept may be difficult for many to accept, the primary purpose for pursing the separate truck projects is to provide a service to the hobby in general. Over the years, there have been many incomplete models and model kits offered for sale by various importers with the promise that proper trucks would be made available to complete the models, there remain untold numbers of models still waiting for those proper trucks. The idea of providing the potential for bringing those otherwise beautiful and exciting models out of their boxes stacked on selves is exciting to me, it's just that simple. If Kohs & Company can be associated with that effort, so much the better.

I hope to be providing regular updates going forward, please check the individual truck project sites for specific details.

11/12/11 - You will notice that I have create individual project update pages for each truck type that we are going to be modeling. This will allow for a clearer understanding of what the individual status is of each truck type. This page will be used to announce new projects or to provide more general information regarding our truck projects.

2/25/11 - The new scale wheel profile for our trucks has been finalized and the first samples are being completed. The adjustable O/P48 wheel gauging arrangement has also been finalized and application has been made to the United States Patent and Trade Mark office for a patent covering the design. Final pricing based on the latest design changes is being confirmed and then it will be on to the reservation process and production.

1/12/11 - Arrangements for the production of our first trucks will be finalized in Korea next week and the offering or reservation process will begin shortly there after. Quite frankly, I am considering different approaches for the sale of our trucks in an effort to minimize the overhead and hassle. The intent of these truck projects is service based rather than making a profit and detracting from our regular production. All the details should be finalized this month.

10/03/10 - I Have a brief comment regarding an overlooked feature and a request for additional feedback. The production trucks will have an adjustable bolster so that the ride height can be preset to simulate the load status of the car the trucks are used on. More often than not, model trucks are built with the bolsters at full height which is not prototypical, I am trying to think of all the details that should be considered before we move to production.

Over the last several months I have had a number of conversations about the wheel profiles used for P:48 models and surprisingly, there has been a relatively wide range of specifications offered. If you are a modeler that is interested in using our trucks and wheelsets for P:48, please let me know the following if you have a definite preference: profile width, flange width, flange height, and tread width. Some modelers have expressed a preference for absolute scale 'new' profile dimensions while others have rationalized using flanges closer to what I have already been producing by modeling the 'condemnable' standards used for prototypes. Now is the time to speak up if you are interested in using Kohs & Company trucks. Many thanks in advance for your time and effort.

9/23/10 - A feature that I failed to mention regarding our trucks, is the effort to develop and include more prototypical appearing springs. To keep scale truck springing functional has typically required the use of coil springs with wire diameters undersize. We have been experimenting to make this final improvement which will make a significant difference. More detail will be shared once the process is finalized.
